Does anyone have a problem with receiving mass emailings from friends?
8 comments so farI am very **** about keeping my inbox well-groomed and uncluttered. I SPAM stuff that I didn’t ask for, but I am confounded about friends and family who send those chain emails, stupid, silly jokes and optical illusions, or otherwise impersonal, trivial emails (even when they are about a serious issue, I don’t like a mass mailing). How did you handle it, if you can relate?
Ifahn25: I had a similar problem with someone getting offended. It’s really silly, but go figure. The thing about deleting them is that some people will ask–”Did you read that one I sent about…?” and I say: “No, actually, I automatically delete those kinds of mass mailings because they are not addressed to me personally and they are hard to wade through. Sometimes I’ll get a doubletake, but at least I get my point across…
Daeve930: I delete, but quite frankly it pisses me off that I get sent this crap. I don’t do that to other people and as the poster under you has noted, it is so impersonal that it borders on insulting, really…

2 per day is not a problem and some are good.
yes, i never forward those crappy chainmails.
I don’t appreciate random forwards either.
Although I do enjoy the occasional actually funny one.
When I had a friend who send 20+ spams a week, I finally told her that I only got on the internet only once a week, and didn’t have time to wade through all of the forwards.
She got upset, and didnt’ talk to me for a year.
So it depends…. delete them and keep a friend. Or say something and risk offending somebody.
I just did this today, as a matter of fact. Just tell the person you use your email for work and you don’t want to receive mass nonpersonal emails, then say “I don’t want to have to block you….” If that doesn’t work, tell them again with a little scolding, but do it as a reply to all so they are embarrassed. Chances are no one else on that list wants to be there either. I have only had give the second warning one time, to a kind of thickheaded serious offender.
I get a ton of emails, mostly the religious kind that say, “If you’re not ashamed to admit you know Jesus…” I delete those because some ******* with a keyboard isn’t going to define my relationship with God. Those don’t prove anything except that you know how to forward email. I don’t forward anything I don’t agree with either, or things that are jingoistic or xenophobic. Sometimes, if I really care about the sender, I’ll explain my reasons, or just return it to her but usually I just ignore it. I don’t send the same thing 6 times in a week, no matter how many times I get them. If someone says, “Did you see such and such I emailed you?” I’ll say I don’t remember, what was it again, or say probably not.
I don’t think anyone has ever gotten mad at me, or if they did they didn’t let on. I don’t care if you read what I send. I send you something I find interesting or amusing, but not everything to everyone, unless it really cracked me up and isn’t too gross or vulgar. I’m pretty selective with the gross stuff, and send it only to people I know share my juvenile sense of humor.
Why don’t you just delete them, and forget about it? Anyone who would be upset that you don’t want to play is probably too high maintenance anyway.
I am on your side. I think they’re:
A waste of time - who wants to spend their day trawling through to actually find it, and then it’s crap. It also takes time to delete them.
Impersonal - sending such rubbish to 100 people at once defies the point of communicating with YOU. It’s showing off they have a lot of friends emails?
They’re just boring and annoying and I rarely open them!
of couse i recieve a bunch of junk almost everytime i come on yahoo in my box that i don’t even sign up for.
i have the same problem, she always text me w/ chains ;etters & stuff. once day, i told her to stop & she did.
just tell them, thanks you for sending me these stuff, but i dont really want it & need it b/c i get a lot of those & i dont have time to keep up w/ it. can you please stop sending me those>
thanks
