If any legal office is trying to investigate this family, and they use the info to say "see, he does not live here".. then that would be fraud. The only time someone might reasonably use another address , if they are in middle of moving and need something temporary. I have a feeling that is not what they are doing. edit not to over react, but if the son is registered offender and not supposed to be living with children.. that would be even bigger problem. if the person used your address to claim he lives there (or a child) and (example) used it to enroll a child in different school.. yes, that could be illegal. I think it's rather odd, though, that a distant relative would make that request of you, rather than of a friend of theirs.
