I am participating in a fundraiser, is it appropriate to ask my clients for a donation?
5 comments so farI am taking part in a 24 hour long spinning event to raise money for heart disease research. I am emailing everyone I know, and am wondering it it would be unprofessional to include some of my clients (I am a graphic designer) in the email list. What do you think?
That was my gut feeling too. I wasn’t sure because I know a lot of them are involved in things like these themselves, so I would only send it to those few.
I am glad that my suspicion was confirmed though. Thank you everyone!

yeah i would skip the clients
Completely unprofessional.
you COULD put a little tag line in about your up coming event and IF someone asks about it then mention you are doing a fund raising event, but this tag line should ONLY be in a normal email that you would be sending out anyways.
Other than that under NO circumstances should you do so, if it was a direct solicitation for cash / donation then you would soon have a lot of ex clients.
Many clients would have a hard time dealing with this and you just may lose a few of them if you tried.
Do you have a work web site where it could be put up? Do you have an office where you could put up a sign?
Heck, i’m never happy when my friends hit me up for money either. But it’s completely inappropriate to ask clients.
I doubt they would appreciate your using your professional relationship to elicit donations for a personal cause
You could put on your website that you’re doing it though, and perhaps people will be happy to donate that way
