I don't think any PC or mac software gives you what you need to handle 50,000 names. What you want is a Unix server, and the one and only true mass mailing program: mailman. The interface is clunky, since it was built in the early 90's and never updated, but it will do everything you want. If you have a good hosting company, they will already have mailman installed, or will enable a mailing list for you. If not you may have to install yourself. If you don't yet have a hosting company, a good question to verify is if they have/support mailman. Once installed or set up, import your list, and set up your list. Because the interface is clunky, you should set up a test mailing list with you and a buddy first. When you're happy with the settings in your test, set up the settings the same way on your real list, and fire away. Providing you're not sending something horribly spammy, or illegal, you shouldn't get any trouble from later messages, but try not to flood anybody's mailbox. Either way you should only use software that supports opt outs. Mailman delivery should be set to well below your hosting company's threshold. What's your hosting company's threshold?
